The Waiting Room

Work in progress, a series based on hundreds of pen and ink drawings done in the waiting room of Grand Central. Homeless people were in the majority. Waiting to get woken by police, who would rap nightsticks on the benches. Waiting to be chased out in the cold. Waiting for a chance, a change or at least some spare change.

Today all of the seating has been removed, and instead of benches of people passing time, the space is rented out for fashion shows, private events, new car launches. In other words, the space is now monetized and the waiters are with caterers and salespeople.
